Getting started in the family
{FAQS to whom they may concern}
|
1. What are the first steps?
|
Reaching out to the SWD and DSS. The SWD [Social Worker Director] of 2nd family is Denise Z; you can contact the director HERE, and you can then speak to the director about the criteria to enter the program and the child's criteria to enter the program. Your local DSS [Department of Social Services] can give you a referral and refer you to 2nd family, as well as help with funding.
2. Is there a waiting list?
|
Yes. At most times our homes are at maximum capacity, so there is a waiting list to get in. Your child might not be able to come into our program instantly. The wait may be months to a year depending on many factors like:
A. Home capacity
B. When our children are leaving
C. Prepreation for your child's accomadations
And more.

3. How expensive is this program, and what if I lack funds?
|
The cost will depend on the needs of your child, and is typically expensive, though there is no entry/application fee. If you cannot pay for the program's services then you will need to reach out to the DSS [Department of Social Services] for help in funding. Even if you can afford it, DSS can still assist in funding.
4. What are the qualifications?
|
Your child must have a qualifiable medical diagnosis such as paralysis, autism, and many more. We do not accept insurance to qualify, nor do we accept insurance at all. If your child meets the qualifications, we can provide 24 hour supervisory, nursing, and meet the needs of the child.
5. What are the age limitations?
|
There are 2. Our children leave the program at age 21. Meaning anybody 21 and older cannot enter. We are also hesitant concerning infants, because we also consider our staff as a whole and separately when accepting a child into our program.
6. What states do we service?
|
Maryland. We are based in Maryland, but we are looking to expand our reach as soon as possible, to accommodate others.
7. Can I enter multiple children?
|
Yes. However, all children must meet our entry qualifications, and each child's stay must be funded. This does not mean we will be able to enter multiple children at the exact same time however, because there may be wait time.
