What Advocacy For Children mean?
Advocacy for Children’s Needs:  To assure individuals’ rights are maintained and medical services are rendered, Second Family finds itself in the position of having to advocate on behalf of the children in our care.  

How do we do this?

Skilled Nursing Services

We advocate for state funding to obtain needed life sustaining resources and skilled nursing services and supervision. Nursing Services. 
 

Adaptive Equipment
 We advocate on behalf of children by making recommendations to healthcare practitioners for adaptive equipment and services that may be needed upon hospital discharge. 

 
Family Reunification
 We provide services and interventions that support family reunification, if possible, and provide needed training on medical care skills to the parents/guardians. In addition in some cases the child is displaced in which our homes are used provide a temporary residence.

 
Court Hearings
 We accompany children to court hearings to inform court personnel about the status of their medical condition, education and level of family involvement and to provide health care insight regarding adaptations for disabilities. 

 
Legislative Hearings
 We participate in legislative hearings to inform state and federal government officials. These topics include, but not limited to, aspects of medical care and supervision required to serve the varied needs of children with medically-fragile conditions.   

 
Educational Support    
 We advocate for educational support at planning meetings, held by educational institutions to maximize opportunities, for academic achievement and functional performance of children with disabilities.
